The 11th Gorkha
Rifles, the only regiment to be raised comprising troops from Eastern
Nepal (Rais and Limbus), the first Regiment to come up after independence,
was raised at Palampur – Punjab (now in Himachal Pradesh)
on 1st January 1948 by Col HS Chauhan (Father of the Regiment) from
amongst the non-optees of 7th and 10th Gorkha Rifles. |
